Scope

We are responsible for design and permitting the distribution portion of the City of Winnipeg’s network.

Highlights

  • FTTH is the fastest-growing global broadband technology with significant deployments.
  • The development of single mode optical fiber, with its nearly unlimited bandwidth has unlocked the possibilities for massive deployment of long-haul and access fiber optic networks, resulting in three important changes:
    1. Huge capacity increases,
    2. Substantial cost reductions in equipment, operations, and maintenance,
    3. Significantly improved Quality-of-Service (QoS)

Challenges

  • Brownfield (existing) environments present unique permitting challenges due to congestion of underground utilities.
  • Lack of planning and anticipation of future underground development by municipalities creates a challenging environment for contractors such as Phasor to design new facilities that abide by the local municipal offset requirements from existing underground utilities.
  • Compressed timeframes adds pressure for design teams to execute and deliver product without margin for error.
