Scope

Electrical Engineering, P&C and SCADA Engineering, Procurement Support, and Site Acceptance Testing and Commissioning for a 66/24kV Substation in Winnipeg, MB for Manitoba Hydro.

Highlights

  • Multi-vendor 61850
  • Automatic load transfer scheme to restore feeders after a transformer trip which considers actual loading in the past 24 hrs and ambient temperature to ensure the remaining transformer is not over-loaded.
  • Site Acceptance Testing and QA/QC of AC and DC distribution components, and 66kV GIS (GE) and 24kV GIS (Siemens) and 24kV capacitor banks, medium voltage cable withstand tests, relay protection and control including IEC61850 components (SEL), SCADA and network/telecommunication, site specific automatic load transfer scheme testing, power transformer auxiliary device functional testing including full paralleling scheme testing, fault recording devices (TESLA 4000), functional operation of all integrated components (breakers, disconnects, etc.), control wiring point to point and CT loop checks, soil and ground resistivity testing and client witness testing and training as required.

Challenges

  • Commissioning challenges due to corrupted GIS Manufacturer setting files, and a SF6 slow leak found in GIS switchgear.
